Well I didn't document a few steps in the middle. I put the wire brush attachment on my drill and buzzed out tons of the rust. I hit the flat parts with the orbital sander to get as smooth as I could. Time was limited, so I didn't dwell on this long. I know a lot of the rust treatment stuff needs warm weather and sunshine helps that. That's I I didn't stop to photo much.

I treated the metal with Eastwood's two-step rust conversion stuff. It basically chemically changes rust into something harmless. I then encapsulated it with Eastwood's Rust encapsulator. I then hit it with some primer and a top coat of krylon flat black rust buster paint. I know it isn't fancy, but htis is all going down to bare metal when it gets warm. I needed to stabilize this and seal it up so that the car wouldn't be damaged more than it already has been.
